In a seminar held during "SPORTEC2024," a comprehensive exhibition for sports, fitness, beauty, health promotion, and sports performance improvement held from July 16 (Tue) to July 18 (Thu), 2024, Kanta Nishimura, Executive Officer / General Manager of Innovation Strategy Headquarters at BEEATS, interviewed Kazuto Hayashi, President and CEO of iBODY JAPAN Co., Ltd. (now: 3D Life Works, Inc.), and Tomoko Iwai, Director of iBODY JAPAN Co., Ltd. (now: 3D Life Works, Inc.) and Editor-in-Chief of Monthly NEXT, about the importance of body data in the global market and the latest fitness trends in the US. This article presents an excerpt from the discussion. All content can be checked in the archive video, so please apply.

US Fitness Gym Trends

Kanta Nishimura (BEEATS / hereinafter, Nishimura): How have the latest trends in fitness gyms in the U.S. changed since COVID-19?

Tomoko Iwai (iBODY JAPAN (now: 3D Life Works) / hereinafter, Iwai): Although that trend existed before COVID-19, I would like to introduce two trends that have explosively become mainstream since the pandemic.

- 1. "Coworking"
Currently, in U.S. fitness gyms, there is an increasing integration of fitness gyms and coworking spaces. With the spread of remote work triggered by the pandemic, working at a fitness gym has become a standard practice. People who already made fitness a habit used to do both work and exercise at cafes attached to gyms, but as that need has spread, the number of facilities providing coworking spaces is increasing.

- 2. "Medical"
Recently, it has become easy to obtain information related to fitness for free on social media. On the other hand, fitness gyms are pursuing values unique to their facilities. One such initiative that is attracting attention is "Medical." Facilities are appearing that offer services linked to medical care, such as setting up service counters where physical therapists are stationed to provide exercise therapy, measuring individual physical functions, and proposing individual training menus.

From seminar materials

Nishimura: I see. By grasping detailed personal body data and supporting training, fitness gyms are becoming a part of the age contributing to preventive medicine.

Iwai: That's right. I think we are approaching an era where body data is digitized and we receive training proposals based on that data. The utilization of "body data" will likely attract more and more attention in the fitness industry from now on.

Nishimura: Thank you. Next, I would like to ask Mr. Hayashi about the expansion of the body data business. How will the body data business evolve?

Expansion of body data business

Mr. Kazuto Hayashi (iBODY JAPAN (now: 3D Life Works) / hereinafter, Hayashi): I believe data business will become increasingly important in the future. First, introducing the human digital twin market, this market is predicted to reach approximately 6 trillion yen by 2032.

3D body scanner that acquires body data

Nishimura: Next, I would like to introduce the 3D body scanner business that iBODY JAPAN and BEEATS are starting. We, BEEATS, support the operational side, such as UX (user experience) design, marketing, and maintenance, when introducing the 3D body scanner technology developed by iBODY JAPAN to facilities.

Nishimura: In fitness, where unmanned and labor-saving efforts are expected to progress further in the future, we believe that providing new UX (user experience) utilizing 3D body scanners is possible. Could you introduce iBODY JAPAN's body scanner?

Hayashi: iBODY JAPAN's 3D body scanner utilizes the core system of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). It can acquire high-precision body data in a short time, visualize skeletal and posture distortions based on the acquired body data, and provide appropriate recommendations according to the body's condition.

Nishimura: Now, I would like you to take a look at the actual app and explain it in detail.

We also introduce 3D body scanners on our service page.
