OMO Solution Clomoni Digital signage

"Kajimart" is a supermarket that has been attracting customers for 70 years since its founding, with sales floors like a treasure chest filled with high-quality products. It has 8 stores, mainly in Ishikawa Prefecture and the Hokuriku region.

We interviewed Mr. Kaji of Kaji Shoten Co., Ltd., who introduced Clomoni this time.

--First, please introduce yourself.

My name is Kaji, and I am in charge of all Kaji Mart stores.
Kaji Shoten was established in 1951, and 2021 marks our 70th anniversary.
While supervising all stores, I am also responsible for the management and operation of "Clomoni," which we introduced this time.

Introducing a smartphone register that you are not familiar with.
To have customers complete it themselves

--What kind of issues did you have in the first place, and why did you consider cloud signage?

The challenge of having to perform guidance work for customers due to the introduction of a smartphone register was the catalyst for consideration.

Kajimart started digitalizing time and attendance management in 2020, and planned to advance the digitalization of sales floors from 2021.
Prior to that, we introduced the first smartphone register in Ishikawa Prefecture at the Sakurada store. A smartphone register is a register system where customers use their own smartphones to scan barcodes, register products in a dedicated app while putting them in a shopping basket, and then read the QR code displayed on the app at a dedicated register to pay.

At the beginning of the introduction, we received many inquiries from customers about how to use the smartphone register. Sales floor staff were responding to inquiries in parallel with their regular duties, which increased their work, so we felt that creating a sales floor where customers themselves can understand how to use the smartphone register was necessary, and we began to consider cloud signage.

--How did you proceed with the consideration and introduce Clomoni?

Able to centralize management and operation, easy to operate and feature-rich. We were searching the Internet for cloud signage that met these two points.

We currently have 8 stores in the Hokuriku region, and we are looking at introducing cloud signage to all stores other than the Sakurada store, so we were looking for a service where management and operation could be completed with one system.

Also, since we do not have a digital expert staff, we needed cloud signage that is easy to operate and feature-rich. Clomoni is equipped with convenient features such as being able to register content you want to play just by dragging and dropping and automatically playing if you create a playlist in advance, and the cost is also reasonable, so we decided to introduce it immediately without comparing it with other services.

Clomoni allows you to manage multiple monitors at once

--What kind of information are you actually broadcasting using "Clomoni"?

In the Sakurada store, we installed one monitor each in front of the register and in the meat corner, for a total of two monitors, and manage them with Clomoni, but we are creating playlists for each monitor to broadcast information.

In front of the register, we broadcast guides on how to use the smartphone register and reservations for seasonal products such as Christmas and Osechi, and in the meat corner, we broadcast product origin information and recommended recipes, etc.
It is possible to play information such as reserved products between guides on how to use the smartphone register, so we are using it efficiently.

When editing a playlist, it is also helpful because you can easily change the order of playback content just by pressing a button.

--How is Clomoni's operability and communication status?

The operation is simple, and I got used to it in one day. The communication environment is also stable.

I wanted to avoid anything that seemed complicated to operate as much as possible, but Clomoni was really simple and good. Since we can arrange the broadcast schedule for each store and do loop playback, I would like to utilize it more when we introduce it to all stores.

Also, we use it by connecting to the store's Wi-Fi, and it is working smoothly without any troubles, such as the screen freezing or not starting.

At Kaji Shoten, they are utilizing playlists to broadcast a lot of information.

Achieved both cost reduction and reduced operational burden by introducing Clomoni

--What was the effect of the introduction?

Broadly speaking, I feel three effects.

The first point is that we have realized a reduction in the staff's operational burden.
As mentioned above, every time we produced a new poster, replacement work occurred, but by being able to update the content of all monitors with one computer and by having customers understand how to use the smartphone register by themselves, we were able to reduce the number of inquiries to staff.

The second point is that information can always be provided to customers smoothly.
Until now, we used to visit the site to create tools for product information by hand or convey the charm of products through tasting sales, but due to the spread of the new coronavirus, it has become difficult to provide information to customers by such means. However, because we introduced Clomoni, we can broadcast immediately as long as we prepare still images and video data, so we are now able to provide fresh information constantly, regardless of the situation.

The third point is cost reduction.
Until now, even when producing and displaying one poster, we would ask a printing company to send it to each store and then set it up. It cost about 5,000 yen per sheet for large ones, but Clomoni can be used for 2,000 yen※1 per store per month, so it led to cost reduction. Furthermore, there is a limit to the amount of information that can be posted on one poster, so we were repeating production and replacement frequently, but I also feel it is attractive that signage can broadcast information without limits.
※1 This amount is for 2,000 yen (excluding tax) for up to 10 units per store.

--What was the reaction from the staff?

I am currently operating and managing Clomoni from the headquarters, but it has become a hot topic among the staff, and voices are being raised about content, such as "We want to appeal this kind of content."

When using conventional paper tools, we only displayed things sent from the headquarters, but after introducing Clomoni, which allows us to change playback content in real time, staff have started to express their opinions more actively, so I am also happy.

Want to prepare abundant content and utilize videos for effective operation

--Could you please tell us about your future prospects?

This year, marking our 70th anniversary, we carried out our first attempt to introduce a smartphone register to the Sakurada store. We are considering deployment to all stores in the future, but since there are still few implementation records for smartphone registers, we intend to continue to utilize Clomoni to reduce the operational burden of each store.

Also, we would like to continue to deliver fresh information and products that enrich the lives of our customers as a “high-quality supermarket in Hokuriku.”

--Thank you for sharing your valuable story with us in your busy schedule.
